About Kendrick Lamar

Balancing the harsh realities of growing up in Compton with his father’s eclectic, escapist taste in music, Kendrick Lamar’s own influences, ranging from the Isley Brothers to Tha Dogg Pound, helped shape his early output of three independent studio albums, earning the young emcee praise from hip hop vets such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Lil Wayne, The Game, & Scott Storch. Lamar’s October 2012 major label release, good kid, m.A.A.d city, debuted at #2 on the US Billboard 200 chart and showcased an impressive lineup of producers (Pharrell, Just Blaze, T-Minus) and features (Drake, Dr. Dre, Jay Rock). The album was met with universal acclaim and to date has earned a Gold Certification from the RIAA.
